Kwikwetlem First Nation KWIKWETLEM: RED FISH UP THE RIVER

This exhibition features Kwikwetlem First Nation cultural objects and regalia, contemporary and archival documentation and contemporary Coast Salish art, including works by Jody Broomfield, Darlene Gait, Fred Hulbert, Darren Blaney, Chrystal Sparrow and Maynard Johnny Jr.

It explores the importance of the salmon in Coast Salish culture, including Kwikwetlem First Nation's efforts to return sockey to the Coquitlam Lake and River. It will also showcase the band's other initiatives to renew their cultural practices, such as aa canoe building project featured in the film Te Sleq'alquels te Slexwelh, "The Journey of the Canoe." This is the first public exhibition focused on Kwikwetlem First Nation.
