JAY HANSCOM: THE VULTURE, THE LOOT AND THE ANVIL
April 30 - May 22, 2010

This body of new and recent work by Victoria-based artist Jay Hanscom evolved out of an interest in building curious but intentional relationships between unlikely objects as well as bridging the gap between ideas he had about art as a youth to the work he now produces.  Images and icons are layered on top of each other creating a narrative that weaves together boyhood themes of masculinity and heroism, while tying in adult frustrations of power and prospect.

Viewers will find repeated images and icons throughout the series, including a black bird, anvil, images of money, a sherriff's badge and a bat, among others.
