FAQS
How much does it cost?
The Teens @ Evergreen is a subsidized program with no cost to students (approximate value: $600). Participants will only be required to pay a $50 administration fee.
Who can apply?
The program is open to high school students ages 14 or older (as of December 31, 2012) from the Lower Mainland, with preference given to students from the Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Anmore and Belcarra). However, we encourage students from other areas to apply if they are willing to commit to the program.
What is the Emerging Talent Festival?
The Emerging Talent Festival is an interdisciplinary arts festival for high school students held annually at Evergreen Cultural Centre. The Theatre Ensemble will perform and the Teens @ Evergreen film projects will premiere at the Festival. Teens @ Evergreen may participate in more than one area of the Festival if they qualify (e.g. Teens may submit their own projects to the Film Festival, but will still have to go through the jury process). You can learn more here.
What are some of the Projects?
Last fall teens in the VA stream were mentored by documentary filmmaker mentor Pia Yona Massie and created two short films. Both docs premiered in the Studio Theatre as part of the Emerging Talent Festival. The teens then worked with artist Judith M. Atkinson to collaboratively design and paint a large-scale mural, which was then installed in Studio C.
The TETE group had a blast exploring the dramatic arts with Evergreen's instructors Michael Charrois (physical theatre, circus arts, clowning) and Mandy Tulloch (comedic monologues). They were also fortunate to attend all the theatre productions at Evergreen and met the cast and crew.
