Amy Loewan: Illuminating Peace September 24 – November 13, 2010 Opening Reception: Sept 26, 4 – 6pm
Woven banners suspended in the Art Gallery are complimented by a large illuminated lantern made of woven rice paper strips that contain messages in over thirty languages. The hand written calligraphy and computer generated type phrases and words express the values that Loewan sees as vital to world peace: compassion, forgiveness, kindness, respect, understanding, patience, tolerance and gentleness. Galley visitors are invited to reflect on their personal ideas of peace as they add their comments to an interactive weaving.

Marcus Bowcott: Cut Block, Stacks and Bundles November 19 – January 8, 2011 Opening Reception: Nov 21, 4 – 6pm
Marcus Bowcott’s recent paintings draw upon his familiarity with the waterways of the lower mainland. Log booms, stacks and bundles of wood pay homage to the clear cut forests, environmental graveyards and monoculture reforestation that have become features of the British Columbia landscape. His sculptural stacks reiterate his concern with deteriorating spaces, consumerism and the threat to places we often take for granted.
