ARTISTS BIOGRAPHIES
KYUNG CHOOBorn in Busan, South Korea, Kyung Choo is an artist who has an outstanding career in Fine Arts. She acquired a master’s degree of fine arts from Paris VIII University in 1987 and has participated in various international group exhibitions including Korea Invitational Art Fair in 2004 and Tokyo Art Expo in 1992, with her solo exhibitions held in Seoul, Busan, Paris, Berlin, and Shanghai. Inspired by nature, she works from her mountain studio in Gyunggi Province where she employs Western art materials to create contemporary paintings influenced by traditional Asian art techniques.
추경은 한국의 촉망받는 미술가로 부산에서 태어났다. 1987년에 파리 VII 대학에서 미술 석사학위를 받은 그녀는 2004년 한국 초대 작가전과1992년 토쿄 예술 엑스포를 비롯한 수많은 국제 전시회에 참가하는 한편 서울, 부산, 파리, 베를린 그리고 상하이에서 개인 전시회를 가졌다. 자연에서 예술적 영감을 받아 작업하기를 즐기는 그녀는 경기도의 산 속에 위치한 스튜디오에서 서양 미술 자재를 이용하여 동양 전통 그림 기법이 응용 된 그림을 그리는데 주력하고 있다.
LAWRENCE GI-SEUNG KIM
Born in Youngdong, South Korea, Lawrence Gi-Seung Kim is an interdisciplinary artist whose Korean resume includes musical producer, director, actor, writer, magazine editor, and book publisher. In 1997, he produced the play “Man Temptation” which received the Dong A Play Award and the musical “Nanta” which won a Musical Grand Award presented by Sports Cho Sun. In Canada, he has had two solo exhibitions at the Port Moody Art Centre.
김기승은 여러가지 분야에서 활동하고 있는 다재다능한 예술인으로 충청 영동에서 태어났다. 한국에서 그는 뮤지컬 프로듀서, 감독, 배우, 작가, 잡지 편집인, 그리고 책 출판인으로 일해왔다. 그가 1997년에 기획한 연극 “남자충동”은 동아 연극 작품상을 수상하였고, 그가 같은 해에 기획된 뮤지컬 “난타” 또한 스포츠 조선의 뮤지컬 대상을 수상하였다. 한국 뿐 아니라 캐나다에서도 활발하게 활동을 하고 있는 그는 포트무디에서 두번의 개인 전시회를 열었다.
HYO JOO KIM
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Hyo Joo Kim acquired certification as an expert on Korean Traditional Clothing Study in 2002. She has been an instructor of Bojagi textile at the Seoul International Women’s Association, SamChungGak Traditional Craft School, and Underwood International College of Yonsei University in South Korea. Hyo Joo Kim’s exhibitions include the Korean Traditional Clothing Group Exhibition at Woon Hyun Place in South Korea, and the Bojagi Exhibition and Korean Night in Mission, British Columbia. The true beauty of her Bojagi works lies in the fact that each work is composed of one-of-a-kind patterns that express her unique creative personality.
김효주는 서울 출신의 보자기 작가로 2002년에 한국 복식 봉재 자격증을 취득했다. 그녀는 서울 국제 여성 협회,삼청각 전통 공예 학교, 연세대학교의 언더우드 국제 학과에서 보자기 강사로 일해왔다. 그녀는 한국의 운현궁에서 작품을 전시했고 캐나다에서는 미션의 코리안 나잇 행사에서 자신의 작품을 선보였다. 그녀의 보자기 작품의 진정한 아름다움은 각 작품이 가진 고유한 무늬를 표현하는데 그녀만의 독특한 창의성이 발휘 되었다는 점에 있다.
Born in Japan, Clay Jung Hong Kim moved to South Korea when he was two years old. Prior to moving to Canada in 2001, he established himself as a professional potter specializing in Korean traditional pottery. He has participated in many local and international exhibitions including “Made of Clay” Exhibition at the BC Ceramics Gallery in Vancouver in 2005, Korean Pottery Exhibition at Los Angeles Korean Culture Museum in 1999, Korean Japan Exchange Exhibition in Kagoshma in 1998, and Korean Traditional Pottery Exhibition in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1997. He was an eight-time recipient of Special Recognition at National Arts & Crafts Competition between 1980 and 1999. He currently works from his studio in Coquitlam.
클레이 김정홍은 일본에서 태어나 두 살 때부터 한국에서 살기 시작했다. 그는 2001년에 캐나다로 이사를 가기 전까지 전통 도예가로서 명성을 쌓아 왔다. 클레이 김정홍은 2005년에 비씨 도자기 갤러리에서 열린 “메이드 오브 클레이” 전시회, 1999년에 로스엔젤레스 한국 문화 박물관에서 열린 도자기 전시회, 1998년에 카고시마에서 열린 한국 일본 문화 교류 전시회, 그리고 1997년에 러시아 세인트피터스버그에서 열린 도자기 전시회 등에 참여했다. 그는 1980년에서 1999년에 걸쳐 한국 예술 공예 대회에서 여덟번 입상하였고, 현재 캐나다 코퀴틀람시에 위치하고 있는 스튜디오에서 작업을 하고 있다.
Born in Seoul, South Korea Jung Gun Shin is a revered free-style calligraphy artist in South Korea. She majored in Calligraphy at Kyonggi University in South Korea and is working as the director of the Gallery of Freedom. Between 1993 and 2002, she received five awards in the Korean Grand Art Contest. In 1996, she was a recipient of the first prize for the Hangul section in the Gyunggi Provicne Art Competition. Breaking from tradition, she uses calligraphy to express freedom, energy, and emotion. To realize her goal of spreading her art works around the world, she has recently exhibited in China, France, and USA.
신정균은 한국의 존경받는 프리스타일 서예 예술가로 서울에서 태어났다. 경기 대학교에서 서예를 전공한 현재 그녀는 겔러리 자유핵교를 운영하고 있으며, 1993년에서부터 2002년에 이르기까지 국전에 5번 입선하고, 1996년에는 경기도 미술대전에서 한글부 최우수상을 수상하였다. 전통적인 기법에서 벗어난 그녀의 필체는 여러가지 감정들을 자유롭게 표현한다. 전 세계에 자신의 예술 작품들이 전파 되기를 원하는 그녀는 중국, 프랑스, 미국에서 전시회를 가졌다.
