What Use Art History? Ursula Medley, Justin Ogilvie, William Pitcher, Ruth Scheuing, Elizabeth Russell, Ed Varney, Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. Curated by Ann Rosenberg (December 5, 2008 – January 11, 2009)
This small group show examines the way seven contemporary British Columbia artists draw inspiration from past art and present popular culture. The work of Ursula Medley, Justin Ogilvie, William Pitcher, Ruth Scheuing, Elizabeth Russell, Ed Varney and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas ranges across painting, digital photography, mixed-media installation, computer-assisted jacquard weaving, artist's stamps, and a painted copper shield.
"While demonstrating the often amusing ways historical references may be deployed, the artists in this show create their own forms and meanings. It's art history in the making."
