Good Dog: Ross Bollerup (September 14 - October 21, 2006)
Celebrate the year of the dog. Good Dog is an exhibition of recent work by painter and printmaker, Ross Bollerup. In the presented series, the artist uses acrylic paint and printmaking techniques to create colourful layered studies of man’s best friend.
Bollerup describes his subject of the “good dog” as follows: “The image of the dog, the hand, and the ball became a metaphor of play for me. The ball is a vehicle of communication between us and our animal friends. The hand is the expression of care, friendship, and the human presence.” He further comments on the Good Dog series: “This series is an exploration of colour, texture, and various visual elements. In some, colour qualities predominate and in others, the textures or linear aspects are more important. The gesture or posture of the dog interests me more in some pictures. Each piece has its own direction.” |
