Lou Lynn: Implements & Objects September 21 – October 27, 2007
Inspired by architecture, archaeology and industrial objects, BC artist, Lou Lynn creates sculptural works that reference the function and aesthetics of implements and objects that have been used throughout human history. In her artist statement Lou Lynn says, “ I am interested in combining the fragility, strength and optical properties of glass, with bronze or aluminum, to create contemporary forms that are reminiscent of artifacts from times past. The juxtaposition of contrasting materials invites the viewer to explore the tension that exists between strength and fragility.”
Lynn’s unique glass and bronze sculptures – each a synergistic expression of metallurgy – are exhibited throughout North America. Her work is in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, New York; Claridge Collection, Montreal; the International collection of Modern Glass Art, Denmark; and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ottawa. Lynn is active as a lecturer and instructor at the Pilchuck Glass School, Kootenay School of the Arts, and the Red Deer Collage’s Series. The winner of numerous awards, in 2006 Lynn received the Gerson Award for Excellence, Innovation & Leadership from the Crafts Association of BC.
The exhibition Implements & Objects at the Evergreen Cultural Centre will feature 13 glass and bronze works of art. The exhibition is part of a touring exhibition, which appeared at the Kootenay Gallery in Castlegar, BC and the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery in Waterloo, ON prior to its arrival at Evergreen.
