Korean Art: Past, Present, Future July 10 - September 5, 2009 |

INTRODUCTION:
The City of Coquitlam has been designated as a 2009 Cultural Capital of Canada in recognition of the City's longstanding promotion of multiculturalism. In celebration of this honourable designation, the Korean Cultural Heritage Society in partnership with Evergreen Cultural Centre and the City of Coquitlam present Korean Art: Past, Present, Future. The exhibition features five Korean artists who create art that is influenced by Korean culture: Lawrence Gi-Seung Kim (mixed media and performance art), Hyo Joo Kim (traditional Korean women's craft Bojagi), Clay Jung Hong Kim (traditional Korean pottery), Kyung Choo (abstract painting) and Jung Gun Shin (contemporary calligraphy Hanji). The first three artists live in the Lower Mainland and the last two have been invited from Korea.
GALA OPENING RECEPTION: Sunday, July 12, 4 – 5:30pm On Sunday, July 12th all artists will be in attendance for a special opening featuring Korean foods and artist demonstrations. Highlights include: a performance by Gi Seung Kim involving calligraphy, poetry and painting, Jung Gun Shin will be demonstrating calligraphy with an interactive component for guests to participate, and a pottery demonstration by Clay Jung Hong Kim.
